The Group Formerly Known as Smockshop is an artist run enterprise that generates income for artists whose work is either non-commercial, or not yet self sustaining. Co-founded by Andrea Zittel, and based on her principle that "rules make us more creative" our new line of products are all manifestations of the simple shape of a panel. These rectangular products contract and expand, morphing from single surfaces to fully functional objects.

Andrea Zittel uses the arena of her day to day life to develop and test prototypes for living structures and situations. By using herself as a guinea pig she uses own experiences to try to construct an understanding of the world at large. Her practice is primarily situated at A-Z West in Joshua Tree California where she is co-founder of High Desert Test Sites, smockshop and the Group Formerly Known as Smockshop.
